One of our projects, the Hudson Theatre, recently started construction on the renovation of their facility in Manhattan’s Times Square district. When completed, the project will become the forty-first Broadway theater and have the capacity to seat about 950 people. The Ambassador Theater Group is investing over $10 million to modernize the building, improve backstage facilities for actors and stage crews, install new seats and bathrooms, and add lounge areas. We’re thrilled to share the recent public opening of one of our projects, the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling!
The new museum is located within the Broadway Housing Communities’ Sugar Hill development, a mixed-use building in Harlem designed by David Adjaye that also includes affordable housing units and a pre-school. For the month of October, the museum will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5pm. Expanded hours to start on November 5th. More details available on the museum’s website.
The Clark Art Institute received an Honor Award in the General Design category from the American Society of Landscape Architects 2015 Professional Awards Program.
The jury stated in reference to the Clark: “Here we see the investment of a cultural institution in its stunning natural environment that is as important as the work inside the galleries.” More details available on the ASLA website.
Later this week, Pope Francis will be the fourth pontiff to visit Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, where he will conduct Evening Prayer at a Vespers service. To celebrate this important event, the New York Times put together a detailed article on the restoration of the iconic Cathedral. The story features several graphics that illustrate the technical complexity and scale of the restoration – from the cleaning and conservation of the bronze doors, organ and stained glass to the overall building exterior. As the owner’s representative, Zubatkin has been very privileged to collaborate with the Archdiocese of New York and the very highest caliber of dedicated professionals to make this project a success.
We are pleased to share that our client, the Studio Museum in Harlem, has publicly announced that they will be replacing their current facility with a building designed expressly for them by architect David Adjaye of Adjaye Associates, in cooperation with Cooper Robertson. The building will be located on their current site at 125th Street in Harlem and will allow the Studio Museum to better serve their growing and diverse audience. The project is being undertaken as a public-private initiative with support from the City of New York.

Last week, the Connecticut Building Congress held their 19th Annual Project Team Awards. The ceremony took place at the Hilton Homewood Suites in Hartford, CT. The awards as a whole honor project teams that show extraordinary collaboration in the execution of their projects and are attended by building owners, architects, engineers, constructors, subcontractors, subconsultants, and a variety of industry players.

We are pleased to announce that the National September 11 Memorial Museum received an Honor Award in the Architecture category for the design of its new museum. Zubatkin was deeply honored to have played a role in supporting the exhibit development for this project.
Along with the other 34 award winners, the project is being put on view as part of the 2015 Design Awards exhibition at the New York Center for Architecture. The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute will inaugurate new and expanded facilities on its 140-acre campus on July 4, 2014. The project, which reconceptualizes the visitor’s experience of the Clark, culminates a decade-long expansion program and represents the most significant transformation of the Institute since its first building opened to the public in 1955. ZOR has served as the owner’s representative for The Clark since the project’s inception and has guided the project from initial master planning through full implementation.
The project unites a new Visitor Center designed by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, Osaka, Japan, with an expanded Museum Building and the renovated Manton Research Center, both designed by Selldorf Architects, New York. These buildings surround a new one-acre reflecting pool, the highlight of a dramatic rethinking of the Clark’s landscape designed by Reed Hilderbrand, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The expansion adds more than 13,000 square feet of gallery space, supporting the Clark’s expanded collection and exhibition programs, and establishes the Institute as a leader in best practices for sustainability and energy efficiency.
