The newly renamed Buffalo AKG Museum will open to the public on May 25, 2023 – marking the completion of the institution’s transformative campus redevelopment and expansion project. Designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu, the scope includes a new, three-story gallery building and extensive renovations to the 1905 neo-Classical building by E.B. Green and 1962 modernist building by Gordon Bunshaft. Integral to the realization of the program is the creation of new connections and sensitivity to the historic landscape. A transparent bridge will connect to the new OMA building, and a site-specific artwork, Common Sky, by Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann of Studio Other Spaces creates a new community gathering space for the campus.
