Each year, the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) honors project teams that demonstrate extraordinary collaboration across owners, architects, engineers, contractors and trades in the execution of their projects.  Zubatkin’s very own Kate Farewell, PE was one of the judges for the 2019 program and evaluated submissions in a variety of categories.  The winners will be honored at the June 11th banquet. Last week, Suzanne Musho, AIA, NCARB, Vice President, moderated a workshop entitled “A New Life Forms” When a Museum Becomes a Center for Free Thought at the Environmental Design Research Association / EDRA50 Brooklyn Conference.  The session explored how museums play a role in the development of sustainable urban environment and used the Jackie Robinson Museum as an example case study.

We are pleased to share that the St. Patrick’s Cathedral restoration project is a recipient of the prestigious 2019 COTE Top Ten Award. Sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the COTE Awards are the industry’s best-known awards program for sustainable design excellence. Each year, ten innovative projects from across the United States earn the prize for setting the standard in design and sustainability. The program highlights projects that meet the AIA Committee on the Environment’s rigorous criteria for social, economic, and ecological value. In collaboration with other members of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) NYC Chapter, Jason Zubatkin led a workshop on the development of capital improvement projects for a group of community-based cultural institutions in Brooklyn.  The goal of the workshop was to help organizations explore ways in which they might better serve their mission and surrounding community through a clear process and good design.  The discussions  touched on a variety of topics, including feasibility, budgeting, programming, space planning, design, scheduling, permitting, and construction.

Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM), the Building Museums Symposium brings together museum colleagues, design and construction professionals, and other consulting partners to discuss strategies and best practices for the successful planning and implementation of museum building projects.  Zubatkin Owner Representation is supporting the Symposium as a Gold Sponsor and helped organize a tour of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum for conference participants.

9/11 Memorial & Museum Tour – February 27, 2019
Led by key design, construction, and exhibition team members involved in the opening of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, this tour provided an overview of the Museum’s architecture and exhibits. The discussion focused on base building and exhibition coordination throughout the design process, during construction and installation, and as an operating institution. Our very own Emily Cramer was one of the tour guides!

We’re pleased to announce the promotions of Tim Lynch and Steve Saccomanno to Project Manager! Tim has quickly earned recognition by our clients and project teams through his project management skills, as well as his overall commitment to excellence on his projects. Steve’s consistent delivery of outstanding work is evident in his commitment to all of his endeavors. We are proud to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and expertise of both Steve and Tim, and look forward to their continued success!

This holiday season, we have been working with Women in Need (WIN), an organization that provides critical services to women and children in New York City. We’re thrilled to share that this year’s program was a tremendous success. Altogether, our Outreach Team delivered 40 gift packages to the organization. Thanks to all who generously contributed to this year’s holiday initiative!

We’re excited to share that The Public Theater has announced plans to revitalize Central Park’s 56-year old Delacorte Theater, home to The Public’s acclaimed Free Shakespeare in the Park productions and Public Works program.  The project aim is to expand access to the summer programs, not by adding seats to the theater or expanding the theater’s footprint but by adding additional free performances into each season, while also addressing ongoing infrastructural and accessibility challenges that have arisen as the theater has aged and endured years of harsh weather.

Zubatkin is working with The Public, the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) Architects, and the project team on the development of the strategic planning and program.  The firm will subsequently be responsible for managing the design, approvals and construction of the project.  Read more in the NYTimes.

On August 14^th, Suzanne Musho will serve as the Marmomac Delagate Juror for the Natural Stone Institute’s Pinnacle Awards competition. These highly-coveted awards are given to projects whose creativity and craftsmanship illustrate professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential projects. The Grand Pinnacle Award winner, considered “best-in-show” among all Pinnacle Award winners, will be invited to Marmomac, the leading global event for the natural stone industry. The competition on August 14^th will be held in Oberlin, Ohio, at the Natural Stone Institute Headquarters. Find about more about the Pinnacle Awards on the Natural Stone Institute’s website.

Our Outreach Team recently prepared and donated twenty-eight backpacks for Project First Day, an annual initiative that helps prepare thousands of children who live in New York City’s shelter system for their first day of school. Project First Day takes care of all the “little things” like school supplies, a backpack, and an outfit to make sure every student starts off the school year right.
