Every year, the AIA New York and the Center for Architecture honor the architectural heritage of New York City, as well as those who make it a world-class design destination. At tonight’s Common Bond Gala, Zubatkin will join the New York architecture community to celebrate The Center and its mission to education the public about the value of architecture and design.

We’d like to acknowledge the esteemed 2023 Common Bond honorees – especially our friend and partner Jeanne Gang for her innovative contributions to the design field.  We were able to see firsthand the impact of Studio Gang’s work at the American Museum of Natural History, where the new Gilder Center presents an experiential architecture that encourages exploration and furthers the Museum’s mission of advancing scientific research and education. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

October 20-22, 2023, marks the 21^st annual Open House New York Weekend when New York’s most storied and dynamic institutions and organizations open their doors to the public. As a proud Open Council member, we applaud OHNY for promoting access to the diverse and vibrant places that comprise our dynamic city. We’d also like to celebrate our past and present clients offering tours during this year’s event and encourage everyone to visit these historic and history-making sites: American Museum of Natural History’s Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation, New-York Historical Society, and Pratt Institute. We’re excited to share that the Browning School obtained approval for its application to the New York City Board of Standards & Appeals (BSA)! The permit allows Browning to move forward in the conversion of a commercial facility at 337 East 64^th Street into academic use. The new Upper School building creates 18 high school classrooms and labs, a regulation-sized gym, and arts and community spaces. The renovation project will allow Browning to expand its enrollment, further its academic mission, and host its athletic programs on campus.

Zubatkin has been working alongside the Browning School in overseeing the design, approvals, and construction planning for the project. Congratulations to The Browning School, S9 Architecture, and Fox Rothschild LLP on this milestone! Learn more.

We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Sarah Lawrence College on their campus planning initiatives, including the newly announced Siegel Center renovation. You can learn more in the President’s Desk newsletter.

The Metropolitan Chapter of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) offers educational opportunities and leadership development for professionals connected to the management of clubs.  For the organization’s upcoming September Education Session, the programming will focus on how to strategically plan and manage capital construction projects.

Zubatkin’s Senior Principal Andy Bast will be speaking and presenting as part of two of the sessions. Andy will discuss the proposed structures for successful project delivery, including a review of the roles of the different A/E/C consultant partners. Next week, Matthew Doherty, Principal at Zubatkin, will join construction attorneys Melissa Billig and Maryann C. Stallone from Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP and building forensics expert Timothy D. Lynch, PE from Thornton Tomasetti for a session on “Construction Access Agreements: How Sophisticated Owners Can Proactively Plan and Manage Challenges”.

These expert panelists will offer practical advice for property owners and developers, review changes in the laws governing neighboring properties during construction, and discuss strategies for mitigating impacts to project budgets and schedules.

Earlier this week, we were honored to join the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in celebrating the opening of its transformational campus expansion and development project!

Driven by goals to significantly expand its accessibility and enhance engagement with its local and global community, the renewed campus features a new gallery building, a transparent connecting bridge, and a series of extensive renovations to the existing buildings and landscape.

Designed by OMA and Cooper Robertson and implemented in collaboration with Gilbane, and Arc Building Partners, the program includes over 50,000 square feet of state-of-the-art exhibition space, a new education wing, and community gathering space.

In addition, a newly enclosed courtyard at the Knox Building features Common Sky, a site-specific art installation by Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann of  Studio Other Spaces. The signature artwork consists of a canopy of glass and mirrors that provides space that is fully open to the public and connects visitors with the historic Olmsted landscape.

Thank you to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum for entrusting us to support the strategic planning, approvals, and delivery of this incredible project! We were honored to have played a role in managing the overall project delivery, as well as overseeing the development of the Common Sky art installation.

Last week, we celebrated the opening of the newest Ronald McDonald Family Room at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst! An integral part of Ronald McDonald House New York’s hospital outreach program, the family rooms provide caregivers and families with a flexible space for meals, resting, and other support services while their children are undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses.

This project is part of a larger program sponsored by RMH-NY that will renovate spaces to create family rooms at three additional hospitals across New York City by the end of 2023. Zubatkin is honored to be managing the delivery of this program and to be working with Fradkin & McAlpin Architects and Coyle Contracting Corporation in support of RMH-NY’s important mission.
