Remembering Erica L. Tishman, 1959 – 2019

All of us at Zubatkin mourn the loss of our friend, colleague, and champion, Erica Lindenbaum Tishman.  Erica was a pure force, not only in our office, but in all aspects of her life.  Her kindness, tenacity, and perseverance touched thousands of people in New York City, including most notably through her years of Board service and leadership with the Educational Alliance, Central Synagogue, and Riverdale Country School.  We will all miss her.

Thank you Erica for sharing your time, experience and energy with us.  Our love and support go out to her beloved family during this difficult time.

Albright-Knox Breaks Ground on AK360 Project

Albright-Knox Breaks Ground on AK360 Project

We’re excited to share that the Albright-Knox broke ground on its historic AK360 campus development and expansion project last week!  This ambitious undertaking will more than double the number of works the museum can display at any given time, including adding state-of-the-art space for presenting special exhibitions. Designed by OMA/Shohei Shigematsu, the project will also radically enhance the visitor experience at the museum, creating more space for education, dining, and social activities, while better integrating the campus with the landscape of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Delaware Park.  The museum will maintain operations at Albright-Knox Northland during construction.  It will reopen in 2022 with a new name: the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.

Zubatkin has been working with the Albright-Knox on the development of the project implementation strategy and management of the design and approvals. For more details, view the Museum’s website.

Zubatkin Oversees Preservation of Grace House’s Keith Haring Mural

Zubatkin Oversees Preservation of Grace House’s Keith Haring Mural

As part of preparation for the sale of its former Grace House facility on the Upper West Side, the Archdiocese of New York (ADNY) sought to carefully preserve and relocate a three-story mural within the property by notable artist Keith Haring.  One of the artist’s best hidden treasures, the Grace House mural was preserved in 13 separate sections.  Zubatkin oversaw the development of the project, including coordination with EverGreene Architectural Arts, Crozier Fine Arts, and other specialty consultants.  We received this very unique assignment through our work with ADNY, where we are responsible for managing the major capital projects for their real estate portfolio.

M. Mark Malekshahi Collaborates with Rice University’s Totalization Design Studio

Over the past few years, one of our senior project managers, M. Mark Malekshahi, PE, has been an instructor/guest lecturer for Rice University School of Architecture’s Totalization design studio.  The graduate course offers a unique opportunity for architecture students to encourage collaborative and holistic, interdisciplinary approaches to complicated building design challenges.  The program for this year included a behind-the-scenes tour of the infrastructure components, including the geothermal systems, of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral restoration – one of Zubatkin’s project.  The studio’s work is also culminated in the publication of a book that includes several contributions from Mark.
