Construction Advances at the Studio Museum in Harlem

Construction for the Studio Museum in Harlem’s new building is progressing, with the façade precast installation underway. Sciame Construction recently shared a snap video of the latest update at the site.

The Studio Museum in Harlem is the premier center for contemporary artists of African descent, the principal visual art institution in Harlem, and a magnet for visitors from around the world. Once completed, the new building will enable the Studio Museum to better serve a growing and diverse audience, provide additional educational opportunities for people of all ages, expand its program of world-renowned exhibitions, effectively display its singular collection, and strengthen its trailblazing Artist-in-Residence program.

Zubatkin is proud to partner with the Studio Museum, Sciame Construction, Cooper Robertson and Adjaye Associates on the planning and development of this visionary project.

In its third year, the Erica Lindenbaum Tishman Award is presented annually to a person who demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, an interest in mentorship and developing peers, a passion for resolving a particular challenge, empathy towards others, and a commitment to community service. After careful review of many nominations, we are pleased to announce Connie Jacklitsch as the recipient of this year’s Award.

Her compassionate leadership is recognized by all those who have worked with her.  She wears many hats – “advisor, counselor, coach, listener, or implementer of change” – depending on the situation at hand.  We are extremely fortunate to have her on our team.

As this year’s recipient, Connie has selected the Educational Alliance and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to receive a donation in her honor as part of the Award.  Please join us in congratulating Connie!

Buffalo AKG Art Museum to Reopen in May 2023

Buffalo AKG Art Museum to Reopen in May 2023

The newly renamed Buffalo AKG Museum will open to the public on May 25, 2023 – marking the completion of the institution’s transformative campus redevelopment and expansion project.  Designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu, the scope includes a new, three-story gallery building and extensive renovations to the 1905 neo-Classical building by E.B. Green and 1962 modernist building by Gordon Bunshaft. Integral to the realization of the program is the creation of new connections and sensitivity to the historic landscape.  A transparent bridge will connect to the new OMA building, and a site-specific artwork, Common Sky,  by Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann of Studio Other Spaces creates a new community gathering space for the campus. Read more in the NYTimes and Buffalo News.

Zubatkin is honored to have the privilege of working alongside the Buffalo AKG Art Museum as a partner for this important project – supporting the initial feasibility and programming work, facilitating the design architect competition, and supporting the Museum across the design and construction phases.  Congratulations to the team on this announcement!

Poly Prep Hosts Ceremonial Groundbreaking and Press Event for New Arts Center

Poly Prep Hosts Ceremonial Groundbreaking and Press Event for New Arts Center

Last week Poly Prep Country Day School held a ceremonial groundbreaking and press conference on its Brooklyn campus to mark the early phases of construction for the PolyARTS Center.  Under the leadership of Head of School Audrius Barzdukas, this project is the culmination of more than 10 years of planning and fundraising.

The new 10,000 sf Arts Center will dramatically increase space for rehearsals, exhibition, teaching and community engagement, as well as improve connections between the School’s performance, visual arts, music, and dance programs.  When completed, the project will serve as a cultural and creative hub, and strengthen partnerships with the local Brooklyn arts community through Poly’s Arts Partnerships program.

Congratulations to the entire team at Poly Prep, Sage & Coombe, and Benchmark Builders on this exciting milestone!

Zubatkin’s Collaboration with Projects With Care Highlighted on CBS News

As an extension of our commitment to serving the not-for-profit sector, our staff engage in a variety of community service initiatives throughout the year.  Since 2015, we’ve participated in Project First Day, a special program that connects children in need with supplies and an outfit for school.  Our staff have prepared and donated over 100 backpacks – an effort that brings a lot of energy to the office each Summer as we personalize each bag to the individual student’s interests and needs.

CBS featured the amazing work of Projects With Care in a recent news segment.  The story also includes an interview with our very own Jason Zubatkin and Larissa Albert!  Check out the story here.

Jackie Robinson Museum Honors Legacy of Baseball and Civil Rights Icon in Formal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

This morning, Zubatkin joined our clients, project partners, the Robinson family, and a host of notable celebrities and dignitaries, to celebrate the opening of the new Jackie Robinson Museum in TriBeCa. Jackie’s wife Rachel, who turned 100 years old earlier this month, formally cut the ribbon for this 8,000-square-foot exhibit space hailed by The New York Times as “NYC’s first museum dedicated largely to the civil rights movement.”

Honoring Jackie’s legacy as a trailblazing athlete and social justice pioneer, the space features hundreds of artifacts and interactive exhibits designed to engage a diverse audience. The museum, which officially opens to the public on September 5th, also includes a gift shop, guest welcome area, and support spaces, as well as an interconnecting stair and elevator to an upstairs education suite and the museum archives.

Zubatikin’s team includes Andy Bast, Agata Siwiak Vetter, Todd Littleton, Charlene Nieves, Kyle Baer, Heather Siegfried, Lisa Simone, Vanessa Cardona, and Lakya Roberts.
