Studio Museum in Harlem Celebrates Grand Reopening
This past week, we joined the Studio Museum in Harlem, the local Harlem community, and the arts world in celebrating the Museum’s long-awaited grand reopening! The positive energy and excitement in the room could not be missed.
The seven-floor, 82,000 SF building is the first purpose-built home in the Studio Museum’s 57-year history. Made possible by a campaign that raised more than $300 million, the new facility allows the Museum to elevate its service to a growing and diverse audience, provide enhanced educational opportunities, expand its world-renowned exhibitions, and strengthen its trailblazing Artist-in-Residence program.
This project challenged our team on many fronts – from the technical and programmatic complexities to the funding structure, approvals process, and construction requirements. Working alongside a team of museum professionals (Adjaye Associates, Cooper Robertson, Sciame Construction, McKissack & McKissack), it’s been particularly special to see the Museum’s vision come to life.
Here’s to the next chapter for an institution that serves as the nexus for art by artists of African descent. We encourage you to tour the new space and view the inaugural exhibitions firsthand!
